WATER is essential for every living being.

That’s why we are passionate about helping people in the United States as well as in developing countries with access to clean water and sanitation.

I heard the Lord say, “orphan children and water wells”. I know both children and clean water are a huge part of His heart. That’s why I’m so passionate about reaching out to help people who are in need.

How much does one full well cost?

A suggested donation of $10,000 covers the complete cost of drilling and establishing a well in Uganda. While costs may vary depending on location, terrain, and material availability, this amount ensures that an entire village receives clean, safe water from start to finish. Your generosity directly changes lives, providing a sustainable water source to communities that would otherwise struggle with access to this essential resource.

Do you dig wells in other countries in Africa and beyond?

Yes, we have funded wells in multiple African nations, Nepal, South America, and even in the United States. However, our primary focus remains on Uganda, where the need is urgent, and the impact is profound. With a dedicated partner ministry on the ground, we can maximize efficiency, sustainability, and long-term success in our efforts.

How do you choose the locations for the wells?

Our partner ministry in Uganda, Show Mercy International, works closely with local leaders, pastors, and government representatives to identify communities with the greatest need. The selection process includes several critical factors:
  • Community Engagement and Scope of Impact: Villages receiving wells must be actively involved in their maintenance. A local well committee is established to oversee sustainability and ensure long-term functionality.
  • Land Donation: A generous community member donates land for the well site.
  • Geological Survey: A team of experts conducts surveys to locate the best underground water source.
  • Drilling and Construction: Once water is confirmed, the drilling process begins, followed by the installation of casing, a hand pump, and a custom sign.
  • Commissioning and Dedication: The well is officially dedicated in a special ceremony where the love and message of Jesus Christ are shared, providing both physical and spiritual nourishment to the community.

How long does it take to establish a well in Uganda?

The entire process takes around 1 month including preliminary planning, site identification, geological surveys, land agreements, drilling of the well, water testing and opening commissioning. The physical drilling of the well and installation of the casing, pump and concrete around the pump takes an average of a week, sometimes less. The cement then needs to cure before the well is available for public use.. To ensure efficiency, we conduct location surveys and prepare materials and locations months in advance.

How long does a water well last in Uganda?

A properly constructed and maintained well in Uganda can last anywhere from 20 to 50 years. Our partner uses high-quality stainless steel materials, durable casings, and the best available components to ensure longevity. Regular maintenance and community involvement play a crucial role in sustaining the well for future generations. Your donation is not just providing water for today—it is an investment in decades of clean water access for those in need.

Can I sponsor or fund an entire well?

Absolutely! Many individuals and families have generously funded entire wells, often dedicating them in honor of a loved one. This is a lasting legacy that continues to bless communities for generations. If you would like to sponsor a well, we would love to partner with you in making this life-changing impact possible.

Who provides maintenance on the wells?

After a well is completed and officially handed over, the local community assumes responsibility for its maintenance. A plan is put in place for setting aside funds for potential repairs and upkeep, ensuring the well remains operational for years to come. We believe that community ownership is key to sustainability and reflects the Kingdom of God at work in their lives.

Do you own a drilling rig, and does ElijahStreams physically drill the wells?

No, we do not own a drilling rig, and ElijahStreams does not physically drill the wells. Our partner ministry, Show Mercy International, oversees all administrative aspects and manages visits to each village and site. They have vetted and partnered with experienced drilling companies that travel across Uganda to complete well installations. This approach ensures that the best professionals are involved in the process, providing the highest quality wells for the communities we serve. For wells in countries other than Uganda, we have other partners on ground that provide the same approach.

How many people benefit from a water well?

The number of beneficiaries varies depending on the size of the village. One well can serve between 300 to over 1,000 families, significantly improving daily life by reducing disease and increasing access to education and economic opportunities.

Do you provide water in the U.S.?

While we have provided a few wells in the U.S., the high costs and legal requirements make it more challenging. Our primary mission is to serve communities in Uganda, where access to clean water is scarce, and the need is most urgent.

Where can I see videos of this work?

How many wells has ElijahStreams funded?

As of the end of 2024, ElijahStreams has funded over 350 water wells. In 2025, our goal is to fund 20-30 new wells every month in Uganda, continuing to expand our reach and help more people gain access to clean water.

Do you use solar pumps on wells?

While we have installed some solar-powered pumps, they are generally not our preferred choice. In Uganda, the high cost of repairs, limited availability of replacement parts, and inconsistent quality make solar pumps less sustainable. Instead, we prioritize durable, hand-pump wells that are easier to maintain and repair locally.

How does access to clean water impact local communities?

Clean water is a life-changing resource. When a village gains access to a well, several benefits occur:
  • Improved Health: Cases of cholera, typhoid, and dysentery decrease dramatically.
  • Education Access: Children, especially girls, spend less time fetching water and more time in school.
  • Economic Growth: Villagers can focus on farming, small businesses, and income-generating activities instead of spending hours collecting water.
  • Spiritual Growth: The installation of a well creates an opportunity to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ, strengthening faith and unity within the community.

How do I know my donation is making a difference?

We are committed to transparency and accountability. Donors who fund entire wells receive detailed updates, including photos, reports, and GPS locations showing the exact impact of their generosity. We encourage supporters to follow our progress online and, if possible, visit Uganda to witness firsthand the life-changing effects of their contributions. Additionally, we provide an online map showing all funded wells, so you can see the tangible difference your support is making.

Can I visit a well site in Uganda?

Yes! We welcome visitors who wish to see the impact of their donations firsthand. Our partner ministry, Show Mercy International, can coordinate site visits and offer guided experiences to meet the communities benefiting from these wells. This is a powerful way to witness how clean water transforms lives and to deepen your connection to the mission.

Why Does This Matter?

For many in Uganda, access to clean water is not just a convenience—it’s a matter of life and death. By supporting well-drilling efforts, you are providing safe drinking water, reducing waterborne diseases, empowering communities, and sharing the love of Christ in a tangible way. Each well represents hope, health, and a brighter future for those who need it most.
