Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., is a retired American neurosurgeon, author, and former politician who served as the 17th U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021. A pioneer in pediatric neurosurgery, he was known for his groundbreaking procedures like the hemispherectomy and for separating conjoined twins. After his medical career, Carson ran for President in the 2016 Republican primaries and most recently served as the 17th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in President Trump’s administration.
